Today a music world was shaken by a breaking news when Children Of Bodom made an announcement in their Facebook-site that said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce that 2019 will be the last for Children Of Bodom with this line-up. After almost 25 years with Bodom, thousands of shows & 10 albums it is time for Henkka, Janne and Jaska to step back and change direction within their lives. All three will miss the fans and supporters in every city in every country the band ever played. The last show of this line-up will be on the 15th of December at Helsinki Ice Hall”.
“Thousands of shows and 10 albums” literally says a lot. COB has always been a hard working band. I believe that secret of their success is a hard work, endless touring and creating new music regularly. It is obvious that there is plenty of giftedness and skill in the band, but main point is hard work and perseverance. These guys have lived years, months, weeks, days and hours in a tour bus.
It is not easy to tour around the world year after year. Especially if you have family and children waiting for you to come home. Maybe the reasons for an announcement can be traced somewhere to those issues. Henkka T. Blacksmith, Janne Wirman and Jaska Raatikainen who decided to step back can do it with their heads up. I have always respected a work morale of Children Of Bodom. That is something what new young bands should look up to them. It is attitude that counts.
Children Of Bodom is also a beautiful brotherhood tale. Like blood brothers hand in hand they have made their way from a rehearsal basement in Espoo, Finland to be an international star band.
It is still unclear what a band leader Alexi Laiho and other guitar player Daniel Freyberg will do and is the story of Children Of Bodom over as a band. But whatever it happens, it has been a hell of a run for Bodom boys. They are one of the best bands ever from Finland and Finnish people should be proud of them. I am.
